Iowa Communications Alliance and Community Fiber Providers to Host Statewide Virtual Esports Tournament
COLUMBIA, SC (March 19, 2024) – Fiber Gaming Network (FGN), a national esports tournament organizer, will hold a statewide virtual esports tournament for gamers in communities and schools throughout Iowa. The FGN Iowa Clash, a virtual Rocket League tournament, is being co-hosted by the Iowa Communications Alliance (ICA), an association representing Iowa’s 250+ community-based broadband providers, as well as a dozen other community-based fiber providers around the state.
The tournament will take place from April 26-28, 2024, and will be open to gamers in schools or communities with a participating Community Host.
“We are thrilled to be working with the ICA and its members to bring the excitement of esports to communities around Iowa,” said Robert Gilbert, CEO of FGN. “Thanks to the investments our partners have made in fiber networks around the state, even gamers in the smallest towns can take part and compete in the growing esports scene.”
Community Hosts for the tournament include: Alpine Communications, Dumont Telephone, Griswold Communications, GRM Networks, Heart of Iowa Communications Coop, Marne Elk Horne Telephone, Mi-Fiber, Minburn Telephone Company, Premier Communications, Preston Telephone, South Slope Communications, and Winnebago Cooperative Telecom Association.
The FGN Iowa Clash will feature a 3 vs. 3 format and will be played in a single-elimination structure. Players will compete for a prize purse totaling $7,500. The breakdown of the prize money is as follows:
- First Place: $4,200
- Second Place: $2,100
- Third Place: $900
