OLD LYME, CT (August 9, 2024) — Conner Wyman, a 2024 Oberlin College and Conservatory graduate, has been awarded a Fulbright for the 2024-25 academic year.

Wyman earned a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) to Paraguay. The politics and history double major will be based in the capital city of Asunción teaching English classes and leading cultural events at the National University of Asunción.

He’ll be working at the Thomas Edison American Corner, an information and culture center which offers free English language instruction and cultural programming to the public through the University and the United States embassy in Paraguay.

Wyman became interested in teaching English as a second language at Oberlin. His interest in teaching also aligns perfectly with his two majors and courses he took in Latin American politics.

“As a history and politics major, Fulbright presents an incredible opportunity to gain a better understanding of Paraguayan culture and become fluent in the Spanish language,” Wyman said. “I also hope to gain additional teaching experience through the program which I can apply in my post-college life.”

Wyman is one of 19 Oberlin alums or recent grads who have been awarded a Fulbright for the 2024-25 academic year, breaking the college’s previous record of honorees in a single academic year.

The Fulbright Program is the federal government’s flagship international academic exchange program. Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided more than 400,000 talented and accomplished students, scholars, teachers, artists, and professionals of all backgrounds with the opportunity to study, teach, and conduct research abroad.
