FORT COLLINS, CO (August 9, 2024) — Cameron Montague, a 2024 Oberlin College and Conservatory graduate, has been awarded a Fulbright for the 2024-25 academic year.

Montague earned a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) to Colombia. A double major in psychology and comparative American studies, she will teach English at a university and immerse herself in campus life.

Additionally, Montague plans to work with an NGO supporting over three million Venezuelan refugees in Colombia. This interest in humanitarian aid emerged from a summer 2023 internship with On the Ground International, a grassroots organization in Pamplona, Colombia.

“I am really interested in pursuing public health, psychology, or policy advocacy, with a focus on the Latin American refugee and immigrant population in the U.S.,” she explains. “Some time down the line from the Fulbright, I hope to pursue a master’s degree in refugee and migration studies, public health, or social work.”

Montague is one of 19 Oberlin alums or recent grads who have been awarded a Fulbright for the 2024-25 academic year, breaking the college’s previous record of honorees in a single academic year.

The Fulbright Program is the federal government’s flagship international academic exchange program. Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided more than 400,000 talented and accomplished students, scholars, teachers, artists, and professionals of all backgrounds with the opportunity to study, teach, and conduct research abroad.
