Minnesota Humanities Center Presents Juneteenth Brunch Featuring Dr. Bernice A. King
(June 1, 2023) – On Saturday June 10, the Minnesota Humanities Center will host Dr. Bernice A. King, CEO of the King Center, for a special Juneteenth Brunch discussing how we can create
and maintain the Beloved Community. Dr. King will offer a fresh perspective on where we go from here and how we overcome ever-present inequities and injustices in our world.
Attendees will be treated to music from singing legend Jevetta Steele, and brunch will be served at 11 a.m. to guests. The cost to attend the brunch is $25 and all attendees will receive a copy of Dr. King’s new children’s book. All attendees will receive a copy of Dr. King’s new children’s book, “It Starts with Me: Cultivating A Beloved Community Mindset.” Individuals who are unable to attend the brunch but wish to hear Dr. King’s remarks will be provided with access to a live stream recording of the event.

“Because of the important messages within Dr. King’s book, we are proud not only to host Dr. King but to help ensure kids in Minnesota have an opportunity to read her new book,” said Kevin Lindsey, CEO of MHC. “MHC is providing 50 complementary copies of Dr. King’s new book, It Starts with Me, to its community partners who are hosting Kumbayah The Juneteenth Play with MHC in St. Peter, St. Cloud, Golden Valley, and Rochester.”
The Minnesota Humanities Center is grateful for event sponsorship from Thrivent Financial, BlueCross Blue Shield of Minnesota, and McKnight Foundation. MHC will be working with event sponsors and its community partners to distribute additional It Starts with Me books to schools and libraries throughout Minnesota. “We look forward to working with Dr. King and the King Center to continue to cultivate the beloved community mindset,” said Lindsey.
