Marcell Area Harvester Wins 'Logger of the Year' Award
Scheff Logging and Trucking has been named the 2014 "Logger of the Year" by the Minnesota Sustainable Forestry Initiative(r) Implementation Committee (MN SIC). The award was presented to the Marcell-based business at the Minnesota Logger Education Program (MLEP) workshop held in Tower April 15. The Johnson State men's lacrosse team fell to visiting Lyndon State 10-6 on Friday afternoon on the campus of Johnson State College. With the win, Lyndon advances to 2-12 on the year and 2-5 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play. The Badgers slide to 0-8 on the year and 0-5 in the NAC.

Department of Revenue Updates 2013 Annual Motor Fuel Report
The Iowa Department of Revenue has released a revised 2013 Retailers Motor Fuel Gallons Annual Report. Since posting the original report, the Department received some corrected and late-filed information. The addition of that information increased the statewide 2013 biofuel distribution percentage from the previously reported 9.9% to 10.8%. We believe this change was significant enough to warrant publishing an updated report.

AARP Kansas, Insurance Commissioner Urge Veto of Harmful HealthCare Compact Bill
Topeka - AARP Kansas Director Maren Turner and Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger at a news conference urged Governor Brownback to veto House Bill 2553, a bill passed by the Kansas Legislature that would allow the state to join an Interstate Health Care Compact and place federal funding for all health care services in the state, including funding for such programs as Medicare, Medicaid, and Healthwave (children's health insurance) under the control of the state legislature and governor. They were joined at the news conference by representatives from Kansas Advocates for Better Care and the Kansas Medicaid Access Coaltion.
